Most computer hardware can be emulated in software, because most computer hardware is simply a set of instructions encoded in silicon.
Using a virtualization layer that maps software instructions to hardware instructions, virtualized hardware can execute in software as if it were the actual hardware itself.
The cloud is a set of physical servers in datacenter that execute virtualized hardware on behalf of customers.
Candidates for the Azure AI Fundamentals certification should have foundational knowledge of
- machine learning (ML)
- artificial intelligence (AI)
concepts and related Microsoft Azure services.
This certification is an opportunity to demonstrate knowledge of common ML and AI workloads and how to implement them on Azure.
This certification is intended for candidates with both technical and non-technical backgrounds.
Data science and software engineering experience are not required; however, some general programming knowledge or experience would be beneficial.
Azure AI Fundamentals can be used to prepare for other Azure role-based certifications like
- Azure Data Scientist Associate
- Azure AI Engineer Associate
but it’s not a prerequisite for any of them.

Yes you can take the AI 900 exam from home, exam is proctored by PearsonVUE
What you need to do in advance:
- Make sure you have a functioning home computer with a webcam and strong internet connection
- Run a system check to test the compatibility of the OnVUE application
- Have your government-issued ID ready to present during the check-in process (restricted IDs such as U.S. military IDs are not accepted)
- Roommates or pets? Make sure your space is free from noise or distractions
- Clear the room of any preparation materials or unauthorized items to avoid exam violations
When you take your online proctored exam:
- You’ll take photos of your government-issued ID and your testing environment, as well as a headshot (note: we are unable to accept restricted ID types such as U.S. military IDs)
- Your photos will be reviewed and your exam will be queued up. Most candidates will start their exam within 15 minutes of their appointment time.
- If your pictures don’t pass review, you’ll be joined by a greeter as soon as possible to help you troubleshoot.
- You’ll be monitored by a VUE-certified proctor via webcam and microphone throughout your test to ensure the integrity and security of your exam experience.
Azure AI Fundamentals is entry level exam, it is best for someone new to Azure or cloud computing.

All technical exam scores are reported on a scale of 1 to 1,000 and are scaled such that the passing score is 700.
Any score of 700 or greater is a “pass.”
