In this course you will learn about risk, calculating risk, acceptable risk criteria. Identifying the layer of protections in the Bhopal plant before and after Bhopal incident.

In this course first you learn about the Bhopal plant, how the process looked like as well as learning about risk, calculating risk, acceptable risk criteria.

Layer of protection analysis is explained and then the layers in the original Bhopal design are identified. After that the initiating event frequency is determined, each layer of protection is assigned with a probability of failure on demand (PFD).

Using these PFDs and initiating event frequency, the probability of incident happening is calculated, which in turn enables the risk calculation and comparison with acceptable risk criteria to see if the risk is acceptable. This process is repeated for before the incident happened and after it happened.

This training contains some recommendations based on the incident is summarized to enable you to remember and look for it in your designs/operating plant.

The training is closed with pictures from the Bhopal incident site after the incident.

To take this course you work in the industry, are familiar with process safety and risk assessment. In addition, you need to have been at least one session of process hazard analysis sessions (like HAZID, HAZOP or LOPA).
