Description
Beyond The MBA courses are about what I learned in my drive to become a CEO... think of these courses as business advice for the real world.
Early on, I realized the fastest way to make more money and earn a better title is to switch companies.
Sure, advancement can happen at your current company, but rarely will you see a massive salary jump as you climb the internal corporate ladder. As I'll explain in the course, I would never switch companies for less than a 20% bump in salary. And neither should you.
(I have gone back to a company where I had previously worked, and received a salary increase I never would have reached had I not switched companies.)
And if you're just starting out with that wonderful new degree, the insights I offer will show you how to get a great start on your career.
Who's the course for?
Anyone with ambition, whether you're already an executive in the business world, or you're about to embark on your new career. In either case, it's time to be recognized for what you know and what you can do. I'll help you with that.
Specifically, the course is for you if:
You're ready to move up to CEO, VP, Director or Manager
You've been facing roadblocks at work and need to move on
You keep getting passed over at work and see no future there
You've seen an advertised position that would fit you perfectly
You've been told about an interesting job you'd be great for
You have a favorite company you'd love to work for
You hate where you work, whether it's the company, your boss or your coworkers - it's time to move on
You're going to graduate and want to get a great job quickly
Objectives for this course - you will be able to:
Find the jobs that will further your career. You'll learn the two most effective processes to find your next position.
Decipher job ads to learn what companies are really looking for - you'll be able to, based on the job ad, determine what your application should really focus on. Here's a tip: HR managers don't really expect to find someone with all the qualifications and experience they are asking for.
Create a job application that gets you noticed. You're probably going to be up against plentiful competition. I'll show you step-by-step what you need to do to stand out.
Ace the in-person or online interview - make them want you. We all dread interviews. You'll be able to answer the most important things you'll be asked about; like "Tell me about yourself". You'll also learn the toughest questions I ask when interviewing executives and what I expect to learn from their answers. You'll be so ready, your mindset for the interview will be "bring it on".
Determine whether the new company's offer is worth it, and how to ask for more. There are critical factors to consider, and I'll spell them out for you. P.S. Asking for more on your job offer isn't for the faint of heart.
Learn the 7 things you must do right away at your new job. Getting the job is only half the battle. Proving yourself to be a valued asset is another thing. I'll explain what I've done to get noticed and valued at the outset, and why it's your critical first step.
Understand the importance of quitting your job gracefully, and how to do it right. Do not burn bridges. I'll show you how to take this job and... never mind.
Discover what my best University and College students do to land a job quickly. There's a process that works. We'll go through it together.
Real-world Business Cases: interspersed within the lectures will be business cases where I tell you about situations I've encountered that relate to the subject under discussion, and how I dealt with them - what worked and what didn't. I do that with all my courses.
Bonuses:
a) I'll provide a detailed executive job description (Lecture 19) and an executive-level interview guideline (Lecture 17) I use to recruit senior managers. After 45 years in business, these documents are, in my opinion, best practices. Naturally, the examples can also be used for junior leadership positions as well as C-suite roles.
b) Taking notes from a video course can be tiresome. You're constantly worried if you missed a key point, or perhaps you need more clarity. I'll make it easier for you by providing PDFs you can download that summarize every section; this way, you can simply watch the course without stopping to take notes. You'll find them in Lecture 3: Bonus PDFs.
Final thoughts
This 37-lecture course focuses on a) your career development, b) embracing leadership and c) augmenting what you learned in your MBA, BBA or Bachelor of Commerce. Originally, I created this course for executives but realized as I was building it, most of this information applies to any leadership level you will be applying to.
When I completed my MBA, my biggest disappointment was the dearth of courses about nuances, barriers and the critical importance of relationships in business - things I had to learn through trial-and-error throughout my career. I'll help you skip the trial-and-error part.
If there's anything you would like me to include in this course, let me know and I'll do my best to add it.
My goal is for you to learn how to fast track your career based on what I've learned in my drive to become a CEO.
Kind regards,
Bruce
