Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) are individuals who perform at least 50% of professional level safety duties, such as conducting worksite risk assessments, assessing potential hazards and controls, evaluating risks and hazard control measures, investigating incidents, maintaining and evaluating incident and loss records, and developing emergency response plans. Other responsibilities could include hazard identification, fire protection, regulatory compliance, health hazard control, ergonomics, hazardous materials management, environmental protection, training, accident and incident investigation, management advice, record keeping, emergency response, managing safety programs, product safety, and/or security (as defined by BCSP).

CSP REQUIREMENTS

Will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree*

1. Will have four (4) years of safety experience where safety is at least 50%, preventative, professional level with breadth and depth of safety duties

2. Will have a BCSP Qualified Credential:

   • • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)**

     • Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP)

     • Transitional Safety Practitioner (TSP)**

     • Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH®)

     • Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH)**

     • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)**

     • CP-12 Professional Certificate in Safety and Occupational Health, U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center (ACRC)**

     • Certified Safety Engineer (CSE), as administered by the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS), People’s Republic of China (PRC)**

     • Master in Occupational Safety and Health, International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO)**

     • NEBOSH National or International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety**

     • Professional Member of the Singapore Institution of Safety Officers (SISO)**

     • Diploma/Certificate in Industrial Safety, as issued by the State Government Departments Boards of Technical Education, Government of India**

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN CSP EXAM?

• The CSP exam is a computer-based test that consists of 200 multiple-choice questions with four alternative responses and only one valid answer.

• Unidentified pretest questions account for 25 of the questions. These will are spread throughout your test and will not affect your score; nonetheless, since they are unlabeled, it is important that you answer them.

• The CSP test will take 5.5 hours to complete.

• Examinations are closed books, and access to external reference sources are not allowed during the examination.

HOW IS IT SCORED?

• The number of successfully answered questions in proportion to the complexity of those things determines the score. This score is then compared to a minimum passing score for that particular exam version. The CSP requires a minimum passing score of 99 out of 175.

• Immediately after the exam, you will be given your score results at the testing location. Only those who pass will have a pass or fail status stated. You will get the CSP certification, a wall certificate, and access to a printable wallet card as a reward. You must pay an annual renewal fee and obtain at least 25 recertification points every five years to keep your certification.

• If you fail the test, your score report will offer a breakdown of how you performed in each domain or major portion. This will assist you in preparing for any retakes you may wish to perform. Candidates who fail may acquire another exam authorization and utilize it to retake the CSP no sooner than six weeks after their last try.
