You will learn about the latent phase and how best to cope with this pre-labour part which so often can be longer than anticipated. You will be fully informed about the first, second and third stage of labour, and what actually happens to your body during these stages of labour. You will get inside tips on what you can do to optimise the physiology of labour to help achieve a normal vaginal birth. You will gain a better understanding of why it is important to remain upright and an insight into the amazing female pelvis and why it is perfect for childbirth. We look at the birth process moment to moment and breath by breath to help you see that with a little birth preparation childbirth is doable. You will also gain information about what happens when nature needs an helping hand in terms of assisted and caesarean birth, and a brief introduction to breast feeding.
All pregnant women have the capacity to have a positive birth experience despite the potential twists and turns that can occur before baby is in your arms. We look at how best to write a birth plan that includes 'no planning' but focus on birth preferences.
