In this portion of the class we will be looking at a variety of topics to keep you and your information secure while online. Using the Internet has become an integral part of our daily lives in many ways, this means we must take extra care to protect both ourselves and our information while being online.

Key topics include;

• Emai
• Passwords
• Shopping online
• A warning about a phone scam

Content and Overview

This course is suitable for individuals who are new to computers as well as those who have been using the computer for some time. There are no prerequisites necessary before taking this course.

Individuals will learn to recognize when their computer may be running slowly, know which tools to use to diagnose and repair potential problems.

Computer safety can be intimidating but with a few simple steps it can be manageable. We will talk about specific things that you can do, when using things like email or shopping online to protect yourself and your information.

Upon completion of this course individuals will have a clear and basic understanding of the strategies and tools needed to keep their computer is running smoothly as well as an increased awareness of how to protect themselves when online.

Handouts will be provided for you to help you with the maintenance and security topics discussed in this class, which can be kept near your computer for later reference.
