Given the lack of information and resources for smell recovery, we spent months consulting with medical experts to create a smell training course that’s practical and backed by clinical science.

The program is designed and delivered by Dr. Bobby Rasouli, a UK-trained doctor, that experienced his own battle with smell and taste loss after contracting COVID-19.

Smell training is the latest tool used by a growing number of doctors, including ear, nose, and throat specialists, looking to improve patients’ lives post-COVID by teaching them new habits and routines that can benefit their smell recovery. We launched this smell rehab program in July 2021 and over 2,000 people have enrolled.

This course consists of 17 videos. The first chapter discusses the importance of taste and smell in the average person’s daily life and how they affect different age groups. Then we cover the science behind olfaction (smell), the basic anatomy and physiology involved with smelling, along with the definitions of medical terms that apply to this field.

The final chapter of the course largely includes some tips and techniques for stimulating taste by describing optimal temperatures for different flavors and breathing tips while chewing to maximize retronasal breathing.

Smell training, or olfactory training, was first developed by German smell researcher Thomas Hummel in a 2009 study. It involves training the human body's olfactory system to strengthen the sense of smell, according to Hummel. Since then, several studies and research papers have proven the efficacy of smell training.
