Thermodynamics is the branch of physics that deals with heat and temperature, and their relation to energy, work, radiation, and properties of matter. The behavior of these quantities is governed by the four laws of thermodynamics which convey a quantitative description using measurable macroscopic physical quantities but may be explained in terms of microscopic constituents by statistical mechanics. Thermodynamics applies to a wide variety of topics in science and engineering, especially physical chemistry, chemical engineering and mechanical engineering, but also in fields as complex as meteorology.

ENGINEERING THERMODYNAMICS is a very basic subject of mechanical engineering which deals with energy and energy interaction and its effect on the physical properties of substances. It's a very easy, funny and important subject for mechanical engineering and contributes as a basis for the whole THERMAL SCIENCE.

With roots in mechanical engineering, basic thermodynamics is taught in most engineering degree programs. The application of thermodynamics translates across engineering specialties to include chemical thermodynamics, thermodynamics physics, and fluid mechanics, among others.

To become a thermodynamics engineer, you need a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline, though many employers seek candidates with a master's degree or doctorate.

You will need to know basic algebra at the very least along with basic physics (basic properties and states of matter as well as kinetic and electromagnetic energy) and chemistry (temperature is directly proportional to molecular motion). Then get a good book on thermodynamics and study.
