What you'll learn- How to establish and implement a new community paramedicine program within a hospital setting.
DescriptionUnderstanding the inner workings of a community paramedicine program and how to begin the process of establishing and implementing one. Throughout the presentation, I will be discussing how I used my doctoral capstone experience as a Drake University Occupational Therapy entry level Doctoral student to help establish the program at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA as well as what the program entails. In order to provide you with better insight as to how I chose to pursue this topic, I will begin by introducing myself more. I am currently an EMT and have been certified for over two years now. I currently work for Pleasant Hill Fire Department and am actively pursing my Fire 1 accreditation. The concept of establishing a community paramedicine program is very near and dear to me because of my familiarity of how first response services are sometimes overutilized for calls that can very well be remedied with other resources. My background in occupational therapy has helped to bridge the gap between serving the community as an EMT/Fireifighter and understanding how to better serve the community by providing them with another resource that can improve their ability to remain healthy and independent while also remaining within their own home. I chose to work with Mary Greeley Medical Center in hopes of reducing their repetitive response calls as well as reducing the number of reoccurring readmissions. I hope you enjoy the information I have provided in this presentation
