INTRODUCTION

A fingerprint is an impression left by the friction ridges of a human finger. During this course, many aspects of the course are to be taken such as forensics, records, developmental techniques and computer aided techniques. People who have clever mind, take interest in day to day incidents and have an interest to go into the depth of the matter are good to go for this course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course emphasizes the basic information of fingerprints, its principles and their role in investigations and how to analyze fingerprints of an individual through comparison and identification. The Henry's classification system is given emphasis in relation with the identification of individuals through fingerprints. Several methods of developing fingerprints are also explained thoroughly. Specifically, it focuses on fingerprint recording, developing of latent fingerprints and identification and classification of fingerprints for the purpose of presentation in the court of law. This course also includes an insight of AFIS and digital imaging enhancement technique for fingerprints.

COURSE OUTCOMES

After completing the course, the student must be able to:

• relate the principles of fingerprint to personal identification and criminal investigation

• explain about the history and evolution of fingerprints in forensics

• acquire knowledge about the science of fingerprints and different types and patterns of fingerprints.

• different classification systems

• demonstrate competence in collecting known and unknown samples fingerprints as evidence using various developmental techniques and also identify the individual characteristics by comparing both the prints.

• explain about recent advancement in the field of fingerprint identification system such as AFIS, Digital Imaging, etc.
