Metal Casting Process is one of the oldest known manufacturing processes in which a superheated metal is poured in a preformed cavity so as to get required shape and after solidification process the casting is taken out either by breaking the mould (in case of expendable moulds) or by seperating the mould halves (in case of permanent moulds). The whole MOOC is divided into seven sections.

In first section, basic topics such as design of Sprue, types of Shrinkage, concept of Solidification time are discussed. In second section, various numerical methods used for designing a Sprue are discussed. In third section, various ways of pattern making are discussed. In fourth section, topics such as properties of sand Mould, composition of Sand Mould, types of Gating System, calculation of Mould Filling Time, and Gating Ratio are discussed. In fifth section, various types of sand Casting Defects are discussed. In the last section i.e seventh section, special Casting Process are discussed thoroughly. The course will also try to discuss the numerical problems on discussed topics.
