DescriptionClimate data are available through the Copernicus Data Store and this allows the industrial and scientific communities to work with valuable data sets. In this lesson a step-by-step guide is given. The starting point is the CDS web-page were we will learn how to search for data, make a registration and communicate with the CDS API through python. Next, we will learn how to set up environments in anaconda were all our tools will reside. We will install with conda all the needed tools and then we will download the data. We will familiarize ourselves with the format of the meteorological data, showcasing commands of the Climate Data Operators (CDO) and displaying information of the files. We will also use cdo to convert from one file format (grb) to another (nc) and take a look to the information inside the files with ncdump and ncview. Then we will work on an exercise which you are encouraged to work first on your own. The results of the exercise will be given then as input to QGIS where we will visualize and save our data. The steps of this lessons are:
1. Work with the Copernicus Data Store (CDS)
2. Set up a work environment with conda.
3. Use python scripts to download data and communicate with the CDS API.
4. Hands exercise on working with the data with cdo and ncdump.
5. Visualise and. explore the data with QGIS.
