Fifteen years ago, I purchased a brick-and-mortar business in the paint-it-yourself pottery industry. This was the most challenging thing I had ever done to that point in my life. I had 10 employees, HUGE overhead, large inventory needs, huge utility bills, and then the recession of 2008 hit. I had no more advertising dollars, a quarter of my regular business volume, and still, all of my bills and overhead were the same. I had no easy way to get more customers in the door. My only hope was discounting, promotions and new products to draw existing customers back in. The truth is, I had no tools to come back from it. Back then, Google did not allow business owners to manage their own listings and information. Had I had access to this same tool back then, my business would have come back. Spoiler alert, it didn't.
