History Of Human Diet
Our ancestors used to live in caves and used to eat fruits, roots, nuts, berries etc.
Then with the advent of rudimentary weapons made up of stone they started hunting animals and started eating meat.
Next came fish.
With agricultural invention they started eating grains and pulses, vegetables etc.
With industrialization humans started eating excess sugar, processed food, refined carbohydrates and cold drinks.
As long as humans were consuming unprocessed whole food and meat-there were rarely any cases of obesity, diabetes, heart diseases and cancers.
But once they started eating a so-called western diet-consisting of refined carbohydrate, sugar, cold drinks and processed meat the incidence of obesity, diabetes, heart diseases and cancers exponentially increased.
There are various diets: low fat diet, low carbohydrate diet, ketogenic diet, high protein diet etc.
Which diet to follow? Are you confused?
The problem (Nutritionism) is focusing obsessively on macronutrient content (how much fat, how much carbs, how much protein, how much calorie). We label certain nutrients as bad e.g., fat, omega 6 fatty acid, and label certain nutrients as good like omega3 fatty acid, beta carotene etc. It’s the insulin response that matters, not the macronutrient breakdown. The toxicity lies in the processing, not the food. So highly refined and processed grains and sugars, as well as vegetable oils are the problem, not carbohydrates and fats.
