This course has been designed to help people decide whether to join the police or to study policing at degree level. These are big choices and due to their popularity both jobs in policing and places on policing degrees at university are sought after and highly competitive. The course will help career changes and those looking to develop , students thinking of taking police degrees at university, people thinking of working in Criminal Justice and those people who want to learn more about their job motivations, expectations and how to align their skills with those required by an employer.
This course will help improve your knowledge and test your skills and aptitude allowing you to represent yourself in interview and selection processes. The skills within the course will also help people decide on other career or choice options, so it can be used beyond policing. Whilst there are differences between policing in the UK and USA, many of the skills and attributes are very similar.Whilst this course is focussed on police recruitment in England and Wales, some of the skills and sections on how to succeed in job interviews and competencies are transferrable.
You will learn about the role of a Police Officer and what the good and bad parts of the job entail. Students will then learn to match their skills and knowledge against the job description thereby improving your application. There are some practice examples for students to take that are designed to replicate those used by both police officer recruitment teams and recruiters from other fields. You will learn 3 models to help you develop your answers for skills or competency based interview questions and role play exercises.
By the end of this course students will have a better understanding of whether they think a career in law enforcement is for them and what they can do to try and improve their prospects of getting a job. This is an area that many of my students (including mature students) have asked us for help with as they go into the workplace.
