The goal of this course is to help inexperienced or new NEC3 contract users to understand the correct way of managing an NEC3 programme and be able to advise their teams on the best practices and to avoid many pitfalls people fall into.
By the end of this course, my objective is for you to have established a well-rounded and a robust understanding of how the programme mechanism works under the NEC3 contract.
On completion you should be fully accustomed to:
Brief history of the NEC and the contract's ethos
What and how a programme is used for under the ECC3, NEC3 contract
What information should go into a programme
Understanding different roles, responsibilities and key obligations for all parties
The importance of having an accepted programme
Understanding the pitfalls of not submitting or accepting programmes regularly
How to deal with common misconceptions which lead to resistance of accepting a programme
And understand the best practices for revising programmes
You will also know the different types of float and how it’s used
What Time Risk Allowances (TRAs) are and how they are used
Knowledge of critical paths
You will have an understanding how Early Warning mechanism works with the programme
And how the compensation event mechanism works with the programme to secure an extension of time
You should also know how the Acceleration mechanism works with the programme
And how to deal with multiple compensation events and movement of Completion Date
You will be fully accustomed to what is considered Completion, any changes to Completion
And the entitlement the contractor has to finish early
We will also touch on design and how to use the programme to manage the design process
And finally you will have some awareness of Retrospective Analysis of programmes & ‘Forensic Planning’
And Z Clauses impacting on programmes
Knowing all of this, will put you ahead of a lot of construction professionals that don’t take the time to learn best practices, learn from other people’s mistakes or try to perfect their trade.
Knowledge becomes power when you are able to use it to solve problems, the more knowledge you have, the more problems you will be able to solve, which will make you more sought after and open the doors for you to bigger opportunities.
I will therefore present the information in a clear and concise manner, utilising checklists, cheat sheets, provide real life tricks of the trade, templates and examples so the information is immediate and practical, so you can use it straight away.
I will use best practices for information retention and consolidation by using quizzes and further study recommendations and on completion will provide certifications with my courses for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) which are structured to comply with CIOB & RICS CPD requirements.
