How do you know that you are raising a money-smart kid?

Renowned author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki says that we send our kids to school to earn an income, yet no one is teaching them how to manage that income. The lack of money management skills has led to many adults making mistakes that have led to disastrous financial consequences. These mistakes could have been avoided through proper financial education.

Think back to when you were younger...If you could go back and make different decisions with your money, what would you have done differently?

I know what I would have done. I would have saved more, invested my time to learn about money, and explored ways to create multiple income streams. But sadly, I can't go back. What I can do, is to make wiser financial decisions going forward, work smarter to get to where I want to be, and do whatever it takes to make sure my child does not make those same mistakes!

Globally, wealth creation and money management are not taught in most schools. Many parents are also relying on the education system to teach their kids. And those who are talking to their kids about money may not be having these conversations in a positive manner. In fact, many parents may be passing on their own preconceived ideas and beliefs about money and this could negatively affect what they are actually trying to achieve.

I have worked in the financial planning and advisory profession for over twenty years, I have authored two books in the series, Mrs Spiggles and her Money Tales, which teaches children about money and I am also the founder of Money Messages, an online financial wellness program.

My soul's purpose is to empower as many people as I possibly can to manage their money better so that they can achieve their financial goals whilst living their best lives. This includes equipping parents who want to raise money-smart kids to have meaningful and empowering conversations with their children about money.
