When boards and executive directors find themselves in conflict and at an impasse, it's time for intervention before the organization is damaged any further. Often, the board thinks that firing the executive director is the answer. It's not. Firing the one person who knows the most about the operations is the last person who should be relieved of their duties. This course will provide you with an alternate solution that can be amended to suit the organization, however, the basic premise must survive - everyone wins or everyone loses.

Do you seriously want to sacrifice the whole organization's health to satisfy egos? Shut down egos. Talk. Listen. Resolve to find a solution and move on. Anger, recriminations, yelling, accusing, etc will get no one anywhere positive. Emotions may run high. Shut down emotions. Only one person speaks at a time and the other person listens intently. Ask questions of each other. Don't beat the other person up - focus only on the problem - not the person.

Remember that both parties are supposed to be working for the organization. It's not a competition - it's supposed to be a unified front with everyone focusing on the objectives, not the personalities. Get back to working for the organization as quickly as possible.

No one has to like the people they work with. All people just have to learn to work together towards one objective.
