The broadsword is classified as a saber, and it is considered the “General of All Weapons”. It has a curved, single-edged broad, flat, and flexible blade. This weapon is generally used for cutting or slicing rather than thrusting or stabbing

This instructional course teaches the traditional stances, blocks, and strikes for the single broadsword (with and without a shield) and double broadswords. Additionally, the course includes three katas (single broadsword, broadsword with shield, and double broadswords).

The shield used in this course is constructed of bamboo and covered with cloth. Although, it would generally not withstand heavy impact, its practical use is included in this course for informational use only.

Each kata is demonstrated at two different speeds (slow and full speed) and from the front and side perspectives.

This course is an ideal teaching aid for review, rank testing, competition, and self-defense.

Grandmaster Michael A.
