This course aims at introducing the major work on leadership, organization theory and organizational behavior; while using concepts that are relevant to understanding culture, its measurement and effects.
We review the literature on leadership styles (various schools like transactional- transformational, leader-member exchange etc), motivation (need theories like equity-expectancy model), organizational structure (e.g., formalization, centralization, etc), culture and context of various organizational forms (e.g., family businesses).
The course will discuss the relationship between organizational culture, leadership behavior and job satisfaction, commitment and turnover using a life-span developmental perspective. The course will also discuss some recent models of leadership, power, influence and their consequences.
Main Learning Outcomes:
* To introduce students to the literature on leadership styles.
* To clearly define key terms in Leadership and Organization theory like 'leadership', 'culture', 'structure', 'motivation'.
* To apply knowledge of leadership and organization theory to the business environment.
*To examine different approach in Leadership Research (e.g., ladd, fiedler, etc.).
* To assess the importance of organizational culture in organizations.
* To build organizational networks for improving leadership skill.
