The first part of the course discusses the concept of "safety by design" from the perspective applying it as part of occupational health and safety practice in industry. The course discusses different theoretical approaches to "safety by design", observations on implementation, and how "safety by design" links to the hierarchy of hazard controls. How "safety by design" is linked to other professions (process safety, engineering) is also discussed.
The second part of the course discusses the concept of "safeguarding" as it applies to the practice of occupational health and safety in the workplace. Different safeguarding strategies are discussed and illustrated with images and videos.
