This course is slightly academic. It connects the theory of Phonetics and Phonology to the practical application, i.e. pronunciation and spelling. It is intended to bridge the gap between the intermediate and advanced speaking levels, but it can also be suitable for beginners who are curious about the deeper levels of what is behind the 'rules'.

If you want to be able to read the dictionary pronunciations, or if you are getting ready to study English at University, you will find the information and the activities in this course quite useful. If you are not sure how to pronounce certain sounds, you will find the explanation and demonstration videos and interactive activities helpful for your improvement.

There are four interactive lessons, each lesson is planned for one week of learning. Each week takes on a different group of sounds: front, middle, and back. The first week is the warm-up, where you will learn about the phonetic symbols, and how to read the ones that represent the consonant sounds.

The lessons are created in the interactive tool Nearpod, so you will get immediate feedback on your progress.

All the participants have the chance to give feedback to each other. This will give you a chance to evaluate someone else, but also listen to different kinds of accents all over the world.

This course is not accessible to students with hearing disabilities.
