The course is broken down in to three main sections, with each section consisting of a short lecture and a lab implementing what the lecture covered.

The lectures are pretty short (typically 2-3 minutes), covering the general overview of what is to be done in the lab. Each lab then goes methodically through the entire process, step-by-step, not skipping anything, not assuming anything, and is designed to show you, the User, how to do the work easily.

The overall objective is to come away from this course with an idea of how these programming languages work, and how they can interact with each other. This is NOT a deep dive in to any specific language.

The first section is setting up Rockwell’s Studio 5000 and Studio 5000 Emulate, creating a communication path using RSLinx, and running a one-line ladder logic program to show how the emulation works.

Once we have set up our system, we then define our simple process, and then learn how to control this process using the four PLC languages in the Allen Bradley PLC family. These languages are:

· Ladder Logic

· Function Blocks

· Structured Text

· Sequential Function Charts

We also look in how to show the data in an Excel file using DDE, and setting up the PLC clock.
