The course includes eight lessons on the philosophy of education. The course considers basic topics involved in the process of education at all levels. It is quite essential that teacher trainees and others who are earnestly seeking knowledge in philosophy need to understand the deep insights involved in all aspects of philosophy and different schools of philosophy and how these basic philosophies influence the educational process – the aims of education, the role of teachers, the methods of teaching, curriculum construction, and the pattern of discipline of the learners etc. These topics in the course would be helpful to those people who were training to be effective and efficient teachers at different levels.
The main contents that the instructor is going to teach are the following:
What is Philosophy and Educational Philosophy?
Idealism and its educational implications
Pragmatism and its educational implications
Naturalism and its educational implications
Realism and its educational implications
Existentialism and its educational implications
Summing of all educational insights derived from the above basic philosophies
Once the student understands the basic concepts of reality,, axiology, and epistemology, he/she can approach the basic concepts in education such as the characteristics of the learners, the curricula, and the role of the teacher and he can formulate his own philosophy of teaching.
These basic philosophies in education help the student establish an approach to teaching and learning. The future teacher should become confident that he/she knows the knowledge processing of the students, their characteristics, their learning styles
Next, the student, future teacher, will understand the ways in which curricula are constructed and why certain courses are chosen for teaching. He or she will understand their role and responsibility as a teacher. Different teaching and learning techniques will be known because of the basic knowledge of philosophies and this will give him or her an effective workable approach in teaching-learning process. Finally I hope you will like and enjoy this course . Wish you all the best. Thanks
