The UGC conducts exam called NET, on biannual bases. NET is national eligibility test, conducted to appoint assitant professor in different universities and colleges under state and central government. it is the minimum qualification required for a candidate to teach in university.

student who qualify the NET exam are further categorized into top 6%. these students who score among top 6% are given scholarship under the Junior research fellowship scheme.

JRF amount for the first two years is 31000. in addition to that he will get a contingency of rupee 10000 per year and HRA. The amount of HRA is based on the type of city where your university is located. for example if your university is located in DELHI, MUMBAI KOLKATA, he will get HRA of 24%. for other city the HRA will be 16% or 8%.

for DELHI the total amount will be 31000+ 7440 (HRA) = 38440. [10000 contingency paid in 2500 installments per 3 months]

for KANPUR it is 31000 + 16% HRA (4860) + contigency

For the next 3 years the JRF is converted into SRF the amount is increased to 35000 pa HRA is increased accordingly.

The scholarship amount can only be given to the student when he/she is enrolled in PHD or M.phil courses.
