Hello and welcome to U.S. Criminal Law- A Primer.

This is mini introductory law course designed to provide you with a basic understanding of what U.S. criminal law is all about. This course is part of the Criminal Law Series offered by the LawEDX. In this course, we will discuss the legal definition of a crime, the purpose of criminal law, the difference between criminal law and criminal procedure in the United States, the difference between civil and criminal law, how crimes are classified as well as differences classes crimes, the purposes of punishment, and the sources of criminal law, e.g. the U.S.Constitution, Statutory Law, Administrative Law and Common Law.

As this is an introductory course, there are no prerequisites to this course. The lectures are extremely easy to understand and follow. There are numerous examples to help you better understand the concepts discussed. This course is a must for those who are interested in U.S. law and U.S. legal system.
